Dell PowerConnect switches provide advanced features at industry-leading value

Organisations of all sizes set to benefit from lower networking costs
Johannesburg, 17 Aug 2004

Dell today announced the extension of its PowerConnect Gigabit Ethernet switches portfolio in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The following products will be available from today: PowerConnect 5324, PowerConnect 6024 and PowerConnect 6024F.

The PowerConnect 5324 is a Gigabit Ethernet managed switch designed to deliver the core network connectivity needs of small and medium-sized organisations. It offers advanced network security and management functionality for less than R402 per managed Gigabit port - one of the lowest prices in the industry.

The PowerConnect 6024 and 6024F that are both priced at R31 340 (including delivery and VAT) meet the needs of larger enterprises. Designed for customers` sophisticated networking requirements at Layer 3, the PowerConnect 6024 and 6024F can be used to aggregate multiple switches or connect servers to the data centre. Unlike many comparable competitive products, the PowerConnect 6024 and 6024F come standard with high availability features and support for advanced routing protocols, making them attractive to customers who wish to build a scalable network infrastructure.

"By offering outstanding price/performance across our PowerConnect product line combined with comprehensive services, lifetime software upgrades and highly effective management tools all at no additional cost, Dell gives customers a truly compelling value proposition that helps drive down total networking costs," says Tiny Maubane, Enterprise Client Manager at Dell SA.

PowerConnect 5324

The PowerConnect 5324 switch delivers wire-speed performance for all 24 Gigabit ports as well as greater security and flexibility for customer networks. The new switch offers advanced VLAN support, cable diagnostics for improved troubleshooting and advanced quality of service capabilities to help administrators in small and medium businesses more efficiently manage network traffic. In addition, the switch provides larger enterprises increased security through management access profiles for greater administrative control, and enhanced 802.1x wireless support. Standards-based Web and command line interface tools and Dell OpenManage Network Manager help customers of all sizes to easily configure multiple PowerConnect switches deployed across a network.

The new PowerConnect 5324 switch is backed by Dell`s one-year next-business day parts replacement service.

The PowerConnect 6024 and 6024F

The PowerConnect 6024 and 6024F offer customers 24 ports of Gigabit Ethernet in copper and fibre configurations respectively, including eight ports of combined copper/fibre connectivity. The switches support a comprehensive routing protocol set, minimising the need for customers to purchase additional software upgrades, and come standard with redundant hot-swappable internal power supplies and cooling fans to help ensure maximum uptime. In addition, the PowerConnect 6024 and 6024F include an integrated cable tester that allows customers to remotely troubleshoot cabling issues and speed deployment of the switches.

Dell also offers OpenManage Network Manager, a powerful network management system available at no additional cost when purchasing PowerConnect switches, to help customers monitor their networks and deploy firmware and configuration changes to multiple switches in a single operation. Customers can purchase an advanced edition of the software to help maximise network bandwidth and improve security. Upgrade network management packages are also available for customers who need to manage switches in complex multi-vendor network environments.

As with all PowerConnect managed switches, the new products come standard with lifetime telephone support (1) and lifetime firmware upgrades (2) and Standard Gold 1Y Premier Enterprise Support which includes immediate access to senior networking technicians and advanced configuration support.
