Dell SA has again slashed prices on its desktop and notebook products. Brent Hamilton, MD of Dell SA, says due to the company`s direct model it is able to capitalise fast on component price cuts. "Although the continued rand/dollar decline is pressurising vendors to maintain or even increase prices, Dell is in a position to counter this trend by reducing prices substantially on both our OptiPlex desktop and Latitude notebook ranges."
The mainstream Pentium III C600 notebook has recently seen its price drop by 11 percent. Hamilton adds that the PIII 700 MHz product is now available for R19 790 - excluding VAT and delivery. This entire range of notebooks comes standard with a mini PCI modem.
An 11 percent reduction has been announced on the Latitude C800. Adds Hamilton: "With its 15 inch LCD panel and 32 MB graphics capability, this product is well suited to the multimedia environment."
"The entire Latitude notebook range is designed for durability, reliability and compatibility in networked environments, and although price reductions are a natural progression for mobile equipment, we have again accelerated the process, " elaborates Hamilton.
He further says that Dell is broadening its vision to include a greater share of the SME market. As a result of this decision, the company now includes a Business Systems Division that caters for the specific needs of the SME sector.
"By reducing prices on the entire OptiPlex desktop range by an average of 10 percent, Dell indicates its intention to dominate the small to medium enterprise sector of the market," adds Hamilton.
Another reduction that will see Dell impacting the SME market is its 23 percent price cuts on the 12- and 14-inch LCD Celeron Latitude notebooks. Hamilton says that this specific offer is available until the end of February.
"We are well established in the corporate sector and by cutting back on desktop and notebook prices, we are consolidating this segment and intend to do the same with the SME sector," concludes Hamilton.
