Dell supports launch of Africa Schools Technology Innovation Centre

At the launch of the Africa Schools Technology Innovation Centre (STIC) today, Dell announced the Dell Foundation would donate 30 notebooks and two servers to support skills transfer and teacher training in information and communications technology (ICT) at the Johannesburg College campus in Troyville.

According to Rob Nunn, Chairman of the Dell Foundation: "Dell and the Dell Foundation are proud to be associated with the Africa STIC project which enables education through the application of technology. This project falls into the scope of the Dell Foundation's initiative to 'bridge the digital divide'."

The education solutions and programmes deployed at the Troyville-based Johannesburg College campus can also be adapted across sub-Saharan Africa by utilising the facilities at the site as an enabler to achieve this, making the Dell Foundation's goal of breaking the digital divide a reality.

Established in 2003, the Dell Foundation focuses on improving social conditions in an effort to improve business conditions. For this reason, donations are made with the intention of investing in the future of South Africa and thus it targets initiatives that will enhance the long-term sustainability of both the company and the country.

The Dell Foundation South Africa comprises of representatives from all areas of the organisation and approves up to 60 social investment projects per month, with four or five high profile projects, such as Africa STIC, receiving full commitment and endorsement from the organisation.
