Dell unveils SME virtualisation tools

Virtualisation continues to be a hot topic for purveyors of small-business hardware and software, and Dell is the latest to introduce new hardware and services offerings to help customers deploy virtualisation solutions, writes Small Business Computing.

A turnkey virtualisation configuration for SMBs simplifies the design, and deployment of virtual enterprise infrastructures.

The new 'small and medium business virtualisation configuration' offering combines a Dell PowerEdge R710 server, the Dell PowerVault MD3000i storage array, a Dell PowerVault DL2000 backup and recovery system and Dell's PowerConnect switch technology.

SurfBouncer brings static IP

SurfBouncer's new Dedicated Server Static VPN service provides the same encrypted protection as all of its VPN offerings, states 1888 Press Release.

With the static IP, anywhere someone travels, the computer's IP address will always remain the same and the Dedicated Server option allows them to accept incoming connections.

This feature is very useful for individuals and businesses that need to push down to a specific computer. It is also ideal for people wishing to set up Web servers at home who can't use their local IP address.

Sun releases new VirtualBox

Sun Microsystems has released a new version of Sun VirtualBox, its high performance, cross-platform virtualisation software, according to Business Wire.

VirtualBox 3.0 is capable of creating and running multi-processor virtual machines that can handle heavyweight server-class workloads, and also delivers enhanced graphics support for desktop-class workloads.

Many multi-threaded server-based workloads, such as database and Web applications, can benefit from symmetric multiple processing (SMP) systems, which contain multiple CPUs. VirtualBox 3.0 can now support virtual SMP systems with up to 32 virtual CPUs in a single virtual machine.
