Dell will not buy Sun
There have been rumours that Dell may feel it needs to do something with Sun, now that Hewlett-Packard has cut a deal to buy EDS, states 24/7 Wall Street.
Dell may need to grow through M&A, but Sun will never be a target.
Dell has a low-end server business and Sun markets more expensive servers. One of the troubles with buying out Sun is that companies are moving away from large and expensive servers and in the direction of the cheap servers marketed by Dell and HP. Sun's products have become a part of a dying age of IT, states the report.
Skype now on Java
Skype, a VOIP service owned by eBay, has unveiled a beta version of a new application to run on an initial batch of 50 mobile phones that can run the Java platform, says Half Life Source.
Skype mobile will include features such as Skype to Skype, SkypeIn, Skype out as well as Group chat and presence and will debut on a range of phones from the top vendors.
Only eight markets have been selected for now to test Skype-to-Skype and SkypeOut. Most mature markets like Australia, France, Germany and US are excluded from the beta. Users in UK will only have access to the new service.
Google toolkit expected
Google held its second major software developer conference on 28 and 29 May, delivering a host of new technology, services and advice for developers around the Google platform, reports eWeek.
Among the new technology delivered at the event in San Francisco, known as Google I/O, is a new version of the GWT (Google Web Toolkit), sources said.
The GWT makes it easier for Java developers to write high-performance Asynchronous JavaScript and AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) applications in Java.
