Dell South Africa has won four of 20 categories of the estimated R500 million RT 222 two-year state term contract for the supply of notebooks, desktops and servers. Dell South Africa will be supplying the GX200 Pentium III-based desktop system, the Latitude CPt midrange notebook and the Inspiron 5000 high-end notebook, as well as the PowerEdge 2400 midrange server.
"This is one of the biggest wins in terms of South African central government contracts for Dell following our refocus to include government business and the public sector nine months ago," says Gareth Martin, MD of Dell South Africa. "We`re bringing the benefits already established in the corporate marketplace to the public sector, in terms of pricing and service and support," adds Martin.
Historically Dell has been the number one supplier of computer systems equipment to government in the US, as well as to several European governments, and by winning several key categories of the RT 222, Dell is on the road to cementing a similar position in South Africa.
