Dell SA cannot corroborate reports that Dell Inc. "will not be offering its customers indemnification" against the SCO Group`s anticipated legal campaign. This is despite the fact that Dell "embraces the use of Linux on its computers", report CNet and News Trove.

CNet quotes Dell CEO Michael Dell, from his reported delivery of a keynote speech on Tuesday at an investor conference in New York.

Dell SA country manager Stuart van Graan said he was unaware of the developments, and at the time of writing, ITWeb had not received a response from European Dell representatives.

CNet quotes Dell as saying, "We have seen a change (in the Linux momentum) among really large customers." He reportedly added that some large customers have asked for indemnification from Dell, should SCO file a lawsuit against them for using a Dell computer loaded with a Linux product.

"But Dell said: 'We don`t offer it`," reports CNet.

Contrasting reports

SCO SA territory manager Mark Knight earlier this week declined to comment on Australian reports that SCO never planned to sue Linux customers or providers, for allegedly using unauthorised Unix code in the operating system.

BusinessWeek subsequently reported that SCO was planning to send out invoices to Linux users, in an attempt to impose Unix licence fees.
