Delta Electrical Industries upgrades

Johannesburg, 01 Dec 2000

Dimension is providing operations within the large industrial group Delta Electrical Industries with a managed e-infrastructure to enhance stock system reliability and customer service.

The managed network solution implemented at Equipment Spares Parts Africa (ESP) and Wire (Wilec) ensures a speedy pro-active response to network related problems. As a result, customers ordering truck and earthmoving parts from ESP or wire and insulating materials from Wilec are experiencing augmented service levels.

"With a high daily volume of parts` orders from national and international companies, all our offices must have constant access to our country-wide parts availability system," says Mark Behrens, ESP`s IT Manager. "We handle in excess of 1000 invoices a day. These are efficiently processed as a result of the reliable system," he adds.

Behrens says Dimension Data has provided the opportunity for improved productivity and efficiency at ESP and Wilec, adding that the new network is very dependable and provides excellent data transfer and fast response times.

"Dimension Data monitors our data and network, ensuring there are no bottlenecks and the network is constantly available. If, for instance, one of Telkom`s lines goes down, ISDN lines will kick in and our disparate national offices will still be able to access the centralised database," he says.

"This means the Cape Town trucking establishment will still be able to get their urgent parts-order rushed through and there won`t be any delays. The same applies for all our other national offices - in Kimberly, Bloemfontein, Isando, Pinetown, Middleburg and Pretoria," says Behrens.

"ESP and Wilec chose Dimension Data because of the total solution offered. The Group could provide network hardware, workstations, equipment installation, services, remote management, as well as networking and management expertise - in a one-stop package," he says.

"We can now do multi-currency transactions with our centralised accounting system. The new network set-up will also enable us to exploit Internet facilities," concludes Behrens.
