Deutsche Telekom AG has deployed Peregrine Systems` catalogue solution, including search engine technology and content management services, to support transaction services for new e-procurement marketplaces established by the German telecommunications giant.
Peregrine`s range of infrastructure management and e-procurement solutions are distributed exclusively in South Africa by CCH.
Deutsche Telekom has leveraged its technology and services agreement with Peregrine to build chemplorer, a comprehensive new e-procurement site for chemical, chemical-related and life-science industry products, and for other e-procurement sites. The chemplorer site, operating since October 2000, facilitates trade of MRO (maintenance, repair and operations) supplies such as technical goods and services, operational supplies and packing materials.
In addition, Deutsche Telekom is using Peregrine`s Get2Connect.net transaction technology for its horizontal marketplace T-mart.
As marketplaces realise the complexities involved with compiling supplier product information and converting it into catalogues to perform transactions, they are looking to experienced third parties to act as trusted intermediaries in providing technology, professional services and supplier rollout programmes. Peregrine provides sophisticated search and retrieval tools, as well as catalogue content services. Using a focused, consistent methodology, Peregrine manages the entire process of contacting industry suppliers for data aggregation, consolidation and validation.
"We chose Peregrine because we know catalogue software is only a piece of a complex puzzle when building e-procurement marketplaces," says Klaus Marz, GM Business Markets of Deutsche Telekom AG`s multimedia division.
"Peregrine has a proven methodology with best-in-industry processes and procedures to meet our customer needs. Using Peregrine tools and services for catalogue enablement will enable buyers to access the information they need, when they need it."
"The agreement between Deutsche Telekom and Peregrine demonstrates the evolution and expansion of e-procurement capabilities in today`s marketplaces, allowing organisations to capture e-market efficiencies in purchasing the assets they require to operate their business," says Steve Gardner, chairman and CEO of Peregrine.
