DevOps gets applications to market faster, improves quality and cuts costs, making it a 'no-brainer' for local developers.
This is according to Jaco Greyling, pre-sales manager for service assurance and application delivery at CA Southern Africa.
DevOps is a methodology that helps foster collaboration between the teams that create and test applications (development) with those that maintain them in production environments (operations).
It is an approach that local developers have only recently begun to use, says Greyling, even though it has already enjoyed considerable uptake overseas.
"Using the DevOps methodology, developers can get applications into production faster and ensure a higher level of quality. The automated feedback loop between operations and development on how each application behaves means a reduction in the testing cycle, which in turn cuts development costs.
"With most organisations having an application development requirement in order to interact with customers, either online or through mobile devices, DevOps is becoming increasingly relevant," says Greyling.
A recent global study, commissioned by CA Technologies, which canvassed 1 300 senior IT decision-makers worldwide, revealed respondents had seen a 17% to 23% improvement with regards to increased earnings, shorter time-to-market, heightened competitiveness and greater customer satisfaction due to their DevOps initiatives.
There will be a dedicated DevOps track at the upcoming CA IT Management Symposium, where Greyling will be among the speakers discussing the opportunities this methodology presents, as well as available products and solutions in this space. Click here to find out more and reserve your FREE seat.
