Dex Golf Day yields R100 000 for capacity building

Johannesburg, 02 Nov 2007

The annual Dex corporate golf day netted more than R100 000 and the entire amount was donated to Unsung Heroes.

Unsung Heroes is a mentoring-focused NGO which builds the capacity of organisations operating in impoverished communities around South Africa.

These community-based organisations (CBOs) provide vital services such as support to those suffering with HIV and AIDS, the care of orphaned children, job creation and the like.

Many well-known personalities took part in the project, such as Supersport`s Arnold Geerdts, SA Open Golf Champion Gavin Levenson, and SA Junior Champion Ruan Botha.

"It is our privilege as main sponsor of the Dex Unsung Heroes Charity Golf Day to contribute in this way to sensible and well-managed upliftment projects in South Africa," says the Vice-Chairman of the Dex Group, Jans Wessels.

Wessels says Unsung Heroes can be justifiably proud of the fact that it is one of the few organisations internationally that has successfully built capacity in CBOs to the extent that they have reached a point of sustainability and endured beyond their original founding members.

The other sponsors were ABI, Sanrose Autobody, Cartrack, Metrobus, Sounds Great, ABI, Royal Admin, South Net, Budmarsh and Transunion.
