Dexchange is pleased to announce that it has been appointed sole authorised distributor for US-based HIARC Incorporated, developers of HIARC Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) software and HIARC Continuous Online Backup (COB) software.
Dexchange MD, Mike Smith, stated, "Market analysis indicates that approximately 25% of IT budget is spent on hardware, 25% on software, and 50% on the management of data. In larger organisations, this equates to a lot of money. Data stored on inappropriate media can also take up a lot of real estate and energy. Substantial cost savings can be realised by the correct application of HSM priciples."
Easily set up via its user-friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI), HIARC HSM software seamlessly migrates data from online storage, to nearline storage, and eventually to offline storage media according to usage and specific customer requirements. Data is automatically moved to the most appropriate and cost-effective medium without user intervention, optimising cost of storage, saving manhours, and minimising errors and the potential for loss of data.
HIARC HSM manages data across a wide variety of platforms including NFS, NetWare, UnixWare, Windows NT and Apple client/server groups, with conventional, Intranet, SAN and NAS topologies, providing almost infinite, automatic, virtual storage. HIARC HSM is fully compatible with autochangers, jukeboxes and stackers using a wide variety of media including magneto-optical and QIC, 4mm, 8mm, 3480, 3490, DLT, AIT, VHS and D1-5 tapes.
HIARC Continuous Online Backup (COB) software automatically replicates file systems, directory information, application and data files of both local and remote clients without user intervention. Replicated data is typically stored on high speed online disk storage facilities. Missing data can be instantly restored by the clients themselves, eliminating the costly and time-consuming process of having to restore from tape or other offline media.
HIARC COB runs on Solaris (Sparc/x86) platforms, and can replicate and retrieve data from virtually any IP-routable client. Easily managed via any web browser, COB complements any existing tape backup procedure.
HIARC are planning to introduce support for Linux in the very near future.
