DFE-550TX Fast Ethernet LAN adapter from D-Link

D-Link`s 10/100Mbps adapter for PCI Bus with WOL and flow control
Johannesburg, 01 Jun 2000

D-Link, supplier of products, has announced the availability of its DFE-550TX Fast Ethernet LAN adapter which operates in the 32-bit bus master, delivering high throughputs with little stress on the host`s CPU.

According to D-Link SA sales manager, Attie Pienaar, the adapter transfers directly to or from the host`s memory, bypassing the CPU to alleviate the host`s workload by running at clock speeds independently from the network clock.

"The adapter`s single RJ-45 interface auto-negotiates between 10BASE-T Ethernet and 100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet connection, and full or half duplex, completely without any need for users to set configuration," adds Pienaar.

Complying with ACPI specifications, this adapter provides power management function for power saving when not in operation. The `Wake up from sleep mode` to `fully run mode` follows the `Wired for Management Guideline v1.0` supporting AMD Magic Packet WOL. `Wake up Frame` and `Media Change` will be supported after the release of Windows NT 5.0 (EEPROM firmware upgradable.)

The DFE-550TX provides flow control allowing the PC to connect directly with a flow-control-supporting switch.

"This mechanism allows the PC to sense when the buffer is full and pause transmission to avoid buffer overflow and safeguard network data integrity," explains Pienaar.
