DFI, Axiz sponsor winning gamers with tickets to Electronic Sports World Cup

Johannesburg, 12 Jun 2003

DFI, the manufacturers of LANParty motherboards, and Axiz, DFI`s exclusive distributor in SA, have announced that they will sponsor the travel to France for the seven winners of the South African qualifying round for the Electronic Sports World Cup, to participate in the Electronic Sports World Cup later this year. The qualifying round is being held on 13 to 15 June 2003 at the Carousel Casino.

According to Len Nery, organiser of the competition and director of Gamers Gate (www.gamersgate.co.za), which is SA`s qualifying centre for the Electronic Sports World Cup, there will be over 300 gamers participating in the competition at the weekend.

"Participants had to pre-register for one of the three official tournaments: HL Counter-Strike (five vs five players), Unreal Tournament 2003 (one vs one player) and WarCraft III (one vs one player)."

He adds that the winners of the South African qualifiers will be flown to the finals in France to compete against 400 winners from 30 other countries for 150 000 euros in prize money.

Alex Morse, DFI product manager at Axiz, explains that DFI decided to become involved as a result of the launch of DFI`s new LANParty motherboards.

"These motherboards have been designed to appeal to the new age of gaming enthusiasts and feature PCI, AGP and DIMM slots in a bright neon green, which shows up best under a black light. DFI describes these colours as UV-sensitive. The box includes IDE cables with the same neon green colour to add to the overall eerie green glow emitting from the case."
