The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has established a national call centre to help matriculants get their identity documents (ID) in time for tertiary education applications.
Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma instructed department officials to urgently issue IDs to matriculants who have registered for the final matric examinations and have applied for IDs, but have not received them yet.
The department says the aim is to assist the many matriculants who will need proper documentation to sit for the examination, apply for further study opportunities, or find employment after completing their Grade 12 examinations, which began yesterday.
Dlamini-Zuma says it is crucial for the department to ensure matriculants, who are registered to sit for the examinations, possess identity documents that will be the key to their future.
“Consequently, I have directed the department to leave no stone unturned to ensure that all matriculants who are registered for examination and have applied for IDs, but have not received such documents, are assisted urgently and without delay.”
The DHA says it has established a national, 24-hour call centre based at the department headquarters, in Pretoria.
Matriculants can contact the call centre for assistance. It can be reached on: 0711236353, 0711255631, 0712278438, 0723810836, 0726168819, 0724358569, 0795118810, 0790754326, 0828064945, 0828082782, 0800601190, or 0800204476.
Following verification of caller information, the applicant will be advised through SMS or telephone of the collection of their ID.
