DHA, Lefatshe corruption case postponed

Johannesburg, 01 Nov 2010

Lefatshe CEO Coltrane Nyathi and Home Affairs executive Hilita Nkosana will get to spend the year-end break at home, following magistrate Nicca Setshogoe's ruling on Friday that the case be postponed to February next year for further investigation.

The men were allegedly caught in the act of exchanging R200 000 in cash according to a statement released by the two government organisations shortly after their arrests.

At the end of last month, Nyathi and Nkosana were granted bail of R20 000 and R10 000, respectively, having spent two weeks in custody.

The bail conditions include weekly reporting to their local police stations, restricted travel and the prohibition of “direct or indirect” contact with any employee of the Department of Home Affairs and the State IT Agency. This includes accessing the computer or entering the premises of either entity.

On Friday, Setshogoe removed their 10pm to 6am curfew and reduced requirements for written permission from the investigating officer to leave the province to SMS permission.

Nyathi and Nkosana have not been asked to plead yet.
