DiData axes 100 jobs, denies further cuts

Johannesburg, 01 Jun 2001

Local benchmark IT company Dimension is rationalising its i-Commerce division, cutting 100 jobs. This follows April job cuts at its Auto-Mate division.

[VIDEO]The i-Commerce division will see certain companies merged to fit a more streamlined structure. DiData CE Jeremy Ord says the group may place some of the staff affected by the move in other positions within the organisation.

The i-Commerce division suffered a slowdown in the six months to March 2001 with lower margins experienced by the e-business services division.

[VIDEO]Ord denied rumours that more job cuts would be forthcoming, particularly from the group`s American operations.

"In this business as you move things around, country to country, territory to territory, you do make changes all the time. In America specifically, where we have number of networking companies, we`ve rationalised companies into one group," says Ord.

[VIDEO]DiData automotive software division Auto-Mate cut jobs in April, but management was adamant at the time that it was an isolated procedure and not part of group strategy.

Speaking to ITWeb in April, John Kumleben, MD of Auto-Mate, said: "There is no finalisation on the extent of our restructuring process, but in all rationalisation procedures we will be looking at our consultants first. I can, however, say that this is restricted to our company and not part of group procedure."
