Dimension Data has increased its presence in West Africa and opened an office in Ghana after having operated in the region for a decade.
The new presence builds on its Nigerian operation and its presence via subsidiaries Plessey and Internet Solutions. Plessey is present in Nigeria, while Internet Solutions is in both Nigeria and Ghana.
The group aims to double revenue to $12 billion within about the next four years on the back of a new growth strategy that has at its core networking, data centres, converged communications, security and end-user computing.
"We're very excited to be expanding our African footprint. The market in West Africa is growing, and Ghana is going to play a key role in our growth journey. We look forward to working closely with our clients and partners in Ghana and develop locally relevant solutions to help clients accelerate their business ambitions," says MD for the company's West Africa unit, Glad Dibetso.
Currently, Dimension Data group employs 37 permanent staff in Ghana and plans are to increase its system integration skills and expertise over the next 12 months, providing opportunities to "young local talents," it says.
The company, part of telecoms giant NTT, says the World Bank notes that IT and the construction sector now account for half the country's national income.
This is in addition to gold, cocoa and oil which continue to dominate Ghana's exports.
Dimension Data's move has been welcomed by partners such as Cisco and Microsoft, which look forward to expanding their alliances in Ghana.
