Global technology group Dimension Data has announced that it will help Grahamstown`s St Raphael Centre for the care of people with HIV/AIDS to achieve its goal of raising R1 million.
Last month, a triathlon team from the Diocesan School in Grahamstown joined English and French schools to run from London to Folkestone, swim across the Channel to Calais, and cycle from Calais to Paris to raise R1 million for the centre. The girls raised R800 000. Dimension Data plans to add to this figure and will donate R150 000 over three years towards this initiative.
Headmaster, Bruce Probyn, says the school`s pupils have undertaken a similar fundraiser in the past. "Two years ago, the girls swam the English Channel, and the enthusiasm and publicity it generated led them to this greater project."
Tshepo Mahlangu, DiData`s corporate affairs marketing manager, says the company has pledged approximately R25 million over the past three years in sponsorships to a broad range of initiatives.
