DiData has introduced a managed service for Internet Protocol telephony (IPT), which aims to contain costs, increase organisational agility and maximise existing technology infrastructure, the company says.
The service forms part of the group`s managed services strategy and will provide lifecycle support and management for complex IPT environments, enabling clients to focus resources efficiently towards revenue-generating activities, while reducing operational costs, explains Jeff Jack, DiData`s manager of technology and operations.
Globally, managed services are gaining popularity for various reasons, he says. The need to manage the increasing complexity of a converged communications environment, contain and control costs, maximise the utilisation of existing technology infrastructure, as well as the need for 24x7 service availability, are factors that are motivating organisations to move away from a traditional technology outsourcing approach.
Optimal business value
"To ensure that customers extract optimal business value from their IPT environments, it is essential that it is managed and supported with the correct skills, resources and by using best practice," says Jack.
The service level governed managed service for IPT is available with standard deliverables and various optional services, he notes, such as security assurance and carrier management. This enables businesses to customise the service to their organisations` particular requirements, and is suitable for organisations that already have IPT infrastructures in place, or those migrating from legacy voice platforms.
In addition to the ability to focus on core business activities, the service presents organisations with various cost benefits, he says.
"In line with the growing trend of reducing or eliminating capital expenditure, the monthly service fee is an operational expense that enables customers to budget more accurately," adds Jack.
"Organisations can also make better use of internal resources, by deploying skilled IT personnel in other, more strategic areas of the business. This eliminates the need to source, train and retain skilled professionals."
From a business efficiency perspective, IPT allows new applications to be introduced, resulting in the increased productivity of office-bound and remote employees, he concludes.
