DiData`s Asia subsidiary wins $1.5m Internet data centre contract

Johannesburg, 19 Oct 2001

Dimension Data Holdings plc`s Asian subsidiary, Datacraft Asia, has secured a US$1.5 million contract to design and implement a high performance, scalable infrastructure that will enable Hutchison GlobalCenter to offer new, sophisticated managed services in Hong Kong. Backed by Hutchison Whampoa and Asia Global Crossing, Hutchison GlobalCenter is Asia`s leading provider of managed hosting services and e-business solutions.

Under the contract, Datacraft will set up a new network infrastructure for the customer co-location section of the Hutchison GlobalCenter. The expanded network infrastructure will enhance the Internet Data Centre`s (IDC) ability to offer comprehensive corporate network solutions to commercial businesses.

Key to the project is the deployment of Datacraft`s i-Boss solution as a core management tool to provide reliable, real-time monitoring of the centre`s internal network systems, servers and infrastructure components. By proactively monitoring and rectifying potential network faults, i-Boss will enable Hutchison GlobalCenter to provide advanced services as well as the assurance of quality demanded by its customers.

"It is rewarding to be entrusted with the infrastructure development for Hutchison GlobalCenter, one of the largest IDC players in the region. We are doubly pleased that they are leveraging our i-Boss solution to speed up the deployment of new value-added services such as 24x7 expert network monitoring and round-the-clock operational support," said Eddy Tso, general manager of Datacraft Hong Kong.

"Once completed, these service assurance solutions will help Hutchison GlobalCenter meet customers` demand for sophisticated managed network services while differentiating their services for stronger market positioning," Tso added.

i-Boss consolidates software solutions from market leaders to offer best-of-breed business and operational support systems in areas such as fault management, performance management, IP billing and service provisioning. Its modular, plug-and-play architecture allows solutions to be integrated quickly and easily into the customer`s environment without significantly increasing operating cost.

The Boss fault management solution uses Micromuse`s Netcool applications to enable the discovery and resolution of problems on the IDC`s infrastructure before they cause lengthy outages in customer services.

With the software in place, Hutchison GlobalCenter operations staff can define quality-of-service thresholds on the system to ensure that customer service level agreements are always met. Real-time fault monitoring throughout the service delivery infrastructure also enables network operations personnel to maintain constant service uptime.

"Datacraft`s proven track record in designing and implementing networks for IDCs, its comprehensive services offering and experience in customising turnkey solutions are key factors for us to award the contract to them," said Leon Luk, Chief Operating Officer of Hutchison GlobalCenter.

"They also enjoy good relationships with key vendors and have a pool of highly qualified and experienced networking professionals to ensure the quality of system delivery and implementation," Luk added.
