camera sports built-in printer
The world's first digital camera with a built-in printer producing instant photographs has been unveiled, the Telegraph reports.
The 21st century equivalent of the traditional Polaroid, the Xiao digital camera, enables users to take photos and edit them before printing them out.
The candy-hued five megapixel camera, produced by the Japanese toy company Tomy, prints out photographs within 45 seconds via an integrated mini-printer.
Xerox lures Wall Street investors
The pitch at Xerox's annual investors conference was that while the global economy is a mess and hurting the company's results, Xerox itself is both profitable and positioning itself well for when the economy bounces back, according to Democrat and Chronicle.
Xerox's stock in November 2007 was trading at close to $16 a share, and finances were solid enough that the printing and imaging company announced the reinstatement of its dividend after a six-year hiatus.
However, since early October, the company's stock has been under $10 a share and the company is in the midst of a $400 million restructure that will see it shed 3 000 employees in North America and Europe, about 5% of its workforce.
HP loves selling fewer printers
Hewlett-Packard (HP) is selling fewer laser printers and seems to be quite happy with the situation, reports ChannelWeb.
During the vendor's fourth fiscal quarter 2008 earnings conference call, Mark Hurd, HP chairman and CEO, and Cathie Lesjak, HP's executive VP and CFO, both said they are happy with the HP installed printer base for the short-term because it means selling fewer low-margin servers.
HP's Imaging and Printing group had revenue of $7.5 billion during the quarter, down 1% compared to last year.
