Digital evolution in De Doorns

The 2005 Photographers Cape Congress will be held in the Hex River Valley town of De Doorns, near Worcester, from 2 to 5 June. It is open for anyone interested in photography.

"You don`t have to be a club member or a member of the Photographic Society of Southern Africa, you just need to have an interest in interacting with other photographers," says Helen Ireland.

Helen and her husband David Ireland are the organisers of the Photographers Cape Congress 2005.

The congress is being held in De Doorns because every year in May and June this area displays a patchwork of colour - red and yellows - across the valley and there are wonderful photographic opportunities, says Helen Ireland.

Flights over the valley are being organised for photographers. There are vintage tractors and historic houses in abundance, and an established local farming community, says Helen Ireland.

Speakers will include English photographer Tony Heald and local photographers Nico Smit and Johan Botha.

"They will talk on subjects ranging from home inkjet printing, to trying to unravel the mysteries of photography such as colour management and monitor calibration," says David Ireland.

Workshops and lecture notes will be provided to reinforce some of the lectures.

"We have tried to find a balance between the 'how to get there` and the results achieved by those who have already got there," he adds.

The congress will cost R500 per delegate or R150 on a daily basis. Contact Helen or David Ireland at hireland@intekom.co.za.
