Online electronics store, Digital Planet has reported large-scale profits over the festive season.
Says Managing Director Neil Watson: "Across most of our product lines there was tremendous growth and we have seen that growth sustained into the new year. From December 2003, our year-on-year-growth was 80%. Digital cameras were our biggest winners with 300% growth."
He says memory gadgets are star performers for Digital Planet as the company`s pricing is competitive against other retail operations. The same applies to ink.
"Digital cameras did exceptionally well and what made the biggest difference was the scale of advertising we did. We advertised largely online, but did a fair amount of print advertising as well and it has yielded great returns."
2004 saw Digital Planet entering into some lucrative partnerships with the likes of entertainment retailer Look & Listen and 5fm. Watson says Digital Planet will continue its affiliate programme this year.
"We`ve tied up great deals with 5fm, iAfrica, News24 and many other partners and expect to see many new ideas coming from our team. We`ve already forged some great partnerships this year, with our current partnerships continuing. Online space has become incredibly competitive and we expect to see that continue. This will mean more partnerships across the board and we are ready for this," says Watson.
