announced the launch of its national call centre, as part of its web strategy to implement a customer support service for its online IT community. Visitors to the Digital Planet website, can now purchase IT products by way of secure transactions over the Internet and by calling 0860 245 000.
"This decision is based on the global trend for web businesses," says Digital Planet Director, Neil Watson. "Our drive is to convert members into buyers and our philosophy of click or call is to offer our customers different ways of transacting with us," he says.
"The call centre will start small and will grow as customer demand grows," says Watson. "We have implemented technology that is scalable and that will adapt to future functionality requirements." He says Digital Planet has implemented a sophisticated Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system that gives users access to their pricing structures, invoicing and transaction history, stock availability, order tracking and loyalty status.
Watson expects the call centre to have significant impact on Digital Planet`s sales turnover, which currently exceeds R1million per month.
Digital Planet conducts ongoing research to measure the needs of its some 15 000 registered members and results have indicated a large number of users who require one-on-one support during the online transaction process. He says Digital Planet continuously strives to offer improved customer service. "The call centre is there to support our user base with product information and queries and to assist them through the transaction and payment process."
According to Watson, as the e-Commerce space becomes more competitive, it is essential to differentiate products and services and to increase value add to your customers. Digital Planet opens its warehouse sales store this week and customers can now purchase end-of-life or sale items through the website and call centre. "Our call centre number will be available on the website and will be communicated through other media channels, including radio," he says.
