Digital Planet, www.digitalplanet.co.za/dp/default.asp, SA`s online electronics store, has reported a 90% increase in the number of Bluetooth products sold through its Web site since the beginning of 2004.
The most popular Bluetooth products sold include headsets, cellphones and PDAs with applications that enable synchronisation and facilitate the mobile office infrastructure.
Neil Watson, director at Digital Planet, says this increase is largely influenced by the need for consumers to communicate using multiple mobile devices without having compatibility issues between connections, while operating in a wireless environment.
"A Bluetooth headset enables you to connect to your cellphone in a hands-free environment. With a Bluetooth cellphone, you can connect to a Bluetooth headset and Bluetooth car kit, as well as synchronise your appointments and contacts with your PC. A Bluetooth PDA synchronises with your PC giving you access to e-mail, appointments and contacts. The products are all compatible, easy-to-use, affordable and suitable for individuals on the move."
According to Watson, more consumers are buying Bluetooth devices online.
"Approximately 30% of the products sold through our Web site have a Bluetooth connection. When we promote Bluetooth products, our call centre becomes inundated with enquiries, which also indicates the need for information and education."
