Shopping portal DigitalMall is opening a series of new stores online ahead of the holiday season.

DigitalMall CEO Yaron Assabi says the company has launched three stores - the Brain Books store, PalmOne store and George Foreman store - within the last month and expects to launch another two to three stores before the first of December.

"The Brain Books store was launched in conjunction with MTN Airborn and Nashua Mobile. The store allows UNISA students to SMS their course codes to the store and get back an SMS informing them of the price of the books and finance options. The students can send a second SMS for an detailed quotation, which is sent to the student`s fax number or e-mail address," he says. This feature will also be rolled out to other universities soon.

"The PalmOne store offers free delivery and a range of accessories. PalmOne Tungsten W`s purchased through the store also have a DigitalMall shopping application embedded into the PDA, allowing the to shop offline and only connect via GPRS when they want to purchase a product," he says.

"We will be opening some new stores under the dining, food and drink section in the next few days. This will include products from Pineware, Russell Hobbs, Remington, Hoover, Haz and Salton."

Assabi says traffic to the portal is increasing ahead of the holidays. "We`ve already had a 50% increase in callers to the Macro call centre, and retailers who partner with us often see an increase of between 75% to 100% in sales during the holidays."
