Dimension Data appoints 3fifteen as Microsoft application development arm

Johannesburg, 09 Sep 2004

Dimension Data has officially appointed 3fifteen - a Microsoft applications solutions development company - as its Microsoft Applications Solutions arm in SA.

Dimension Data`s venture capital division, Protocol, has a 45% stake in 3fifteen but the applications development company operates as an independent entity.

"3fifteen has done a tremendous job over the past few years in developing its Microsoft applications skills base and taking its innovative solutions and methodology to market," says Derek Wilcocks, Executive: Strategy at Dimension Data South Africa.

"While Dimension Data had pockets of Microsoft application development skills across the group, we believe consolidation of this key facet of the group`s offering into 3fifteen will enable us to provide an enhanced service to our customers while growing our relationship with Microsoft."

Dimension Data will continue to offer Microsoft infrastructure services using its plan, build and support services engagement model. These services include desktop and server software, messaging and collaboration, directory services, security, databases and systems management services using the Microsoft product set. 3fifteen will conduct bespoke application development using the Microsoft VisualStudio.Net toolset with a particular emphasis on the development of portals and business intelligence solutions.

James Baber, MD of 3fifteen, says the new arrangement ensures a win-win situation for all partners - 3fifteen, Dimension Data and Microsoft SA.

"We are proud of the faith Dimension Data is demonstrating in our abilities. This appointment should result in the opening of many doors for us, particularly in the larger corporate and government sectors.

"It will also eliminate the grey areas of responsibility which have emerged in the two years since Protocol took a shareholding in 3fifteen which resulted, at times, in 3fifteen and Dimension Data competing rather than complementing each other.

"Now, although 3fifteen will continue to operate as a separate company, all potential conflict has been eliminated; Dimension Data will have access to our Microsoft applications skills; and we will be able to fully leverage our status as the official Microsoft applications solutions development arm of the Dimension Data group," Baber concludes.
