In response to a request from the President of South Africa, Dimension Data has provided information technology (IT) assistance to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in support of its recent elections.
The DRC appealed to the South African Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to assist with its elections - held for the first time in over 40 years. The DRC`s electoral management body, Commission Electoral Independent (CEI), required skilled IT personnel and assistance including desktop and networking skills, Windows XP/2003 troubleshooting and Internet-related skills.
Dimension Data offered not only IT guidance to the DRC, but sponsored seven personnel that were sent to monitor and collate resources. These people, with diverse skills, were stationed at various local results collation centres, commonly known as CLCRs, to provide technical assistance and onsite skills transfer.
Says Mosotho Moepya, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer of the RSA IEC: "The contribution from Dimension Data to the historic elections held in the DRC was invaluable. Their staff members made a difference in the way in which results of the elections were administered. We appreciate Dimension Data`s commitment which ensured that this mission was such a success."
Hanif Randera, Executive Director Public Sector at Dimension Data, adds: "It was important for us to get involved and assisting in the elections process demonstrates our continued commitment to development in Africa. This was a first time initiative for Dimension Data and it provided us with platform to extend our impact throughout the continent."
