At TeleManagement World in Nice last week, Dimension Data announced a further investment in its Cisco Systems` portfolio by developing integrated, turnkey solutions that help address the burgeoning global Metro Ethernet market.
Ethernet, now the dominant technology in the local area network due to its low cost, high capacity and simplicity, has become an attractive alternative to offer high-speed data services in the metropolitan area network (MAN). The combination of Cisco network and software technology and Dimension Data`s network and systems integration expertise will help successfully address this growing need and assist service providers in delivering more profitable services in shorter timeframes, with lower risk.
Dimension Data, a world leader in the integration of wireline and wireless IP solutions and a Cisco Certified Gold Partner, builds end-to-end solutions that make it easier for service providers to make money by offering enhanced applications to the market; and to reduce capital and operational cost by optimising and proactively managing their IP infrastructure.
Dimension Data combines Cisco`s market-leading Metro Ethernet network solutions, best-of-breed operations management (OSS) software and enhanced application technology with consulting and support, to help service providers offer a range of advanced services such as Internet access with multi-Mbps speeds, transparent LAN, IP voice, disaster/backup and recovery and video services.
Dimension Data will also offer service provider clients multiple sourcing options that may be needed in these times of continued shortage of CAPEX.
Mahmud Noormohamed, Global CEO for Service Provider Solutions at Dimension Data, says: "Ethernet technology is poised to help end-customers get access to the services they`ve wanted for some time - symmetrical next-generation connectivity speeds, the possibility of receiving bandwidth-on-demand and access to converged services. Ethernet is attractive to service providers as it extends IP into the metro area which can be easier to manage and more scalable than traditional data networking technologies.
"Dimension Data is purposely launching its solution around Cisco technologies because of Cisco`s market-leading position in the Metro Ethernet space and its extensive eco-system of technology and software partners around the world. This is prime territory for network/systems integrators such as Dimension Data."
Michael Bayer, director of service provider marketing, Cisco Systems EMEA, said:" We are pleased to be working with a global player such as Dimension Data that recognises the potential of the Metro Ethernet marketplace. More and more service providers are coming to understand that running converged services over a single IP-based network represents an opportunity to capture multiple revenue streams as well as manage operational cost. In particular, Dimension Data`s understanding of the issues of managing and provisioning Cisco Metro Ethernet networks will help service providers in bringing end customers on board."
With operations in excess of 30 countries on six continents, Dimension Data is one of the world`s largest independent global network integration companies and a leading supplier of application network solutions.
