Dimension Data Holdings Limited is a global network integration and e-business enabler operating in 36 countries on five continents - Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. It also has a small operation in Sao Paulo, South America.
Africa
Dimension Data Holdings and the Head Office of many of the companies within the Group are located at the Dimension Data Oval, Epsom Downs, Sandton, just north of Johannesburg in South Africa. The Group also has regional offices in all the country`s major cities including Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria, Bloemfontein, Durban, East London and Port Elizabeth.
Dimension Data`s South African businesses which, in the year to end-September 1999, accounted for 40% of group turnover and 73% of attributable earnings, are organised into three main divisions: Communication Services (networking);
i-Commerce (Interactive Commerce); and Protocol, which includes logistics and venture capital initiatives.
South Africa`s Communications Services division provides communication centre and voice technologies; consulting; desktop services; intelligent infrastructure; managed infrastructure; managed online networks; multimedia systems; networking; security and telecommunications.
Dimension Data`s i-Commerce services include business-to-business e-commerce; Customer Management (CM) offerings; as well as Commerce Chain Management applications.
The Group`s activities in Africa are not confined to South Africa. Dimension Data is present in Botswana and Zimbabwe and can service Zambia and Mozambique through Zimbabwe.
Other regions where Dimension Data offers communications solutions are in East Africa (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Ethiopia) through a strategic partner, LANTech Limited, and Nigeria through Telnet/iTECO.
Asia
Dimension Data is represented in 15 countries across the Asia Pacific region by Datacraft Asia, the region`s leading networking and communications systems integrator. The Group achieved turnover of U$328-million in the year to end-June 1998.
The Group is anchored by its operational headquarters in Singapore and is listed on the main board of the Stock Exchange of Singapore.
Datacraft Asia has an extensive network of 57 offices in China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, New Zealand, Vietnam, Korea and USA.
The company offers world-class products and turnkey services for corporate communications networks as well as for national and international telecommunications infrastructure.
Dimension Data has also strengthened its i-Commerce offerings with the last week`s acquisition of a 60% interest in Singapore-based PlaNET Technology Solutions, Hong Kong-based iSquare Solutions and DFI Consulting in Kuala Lumpur.
Australia
Dimension Data`s operation in Australia - Com Tech Communications - is the region`s leading network integration and services company. Established in July 1987, Com Tech has national representation in Australia with offices in all major states as well as two in New Zealand.
The Com Tech group operates in four core areas of information technology: network integration and services, broad-based distribution, e-commerce and education services.
UK
Dimension Data is represented in the UK by Chernikeeff Limited, which has been merged with the UK operations of Comparex Networks; as well as GK Communications and The Merchants Group.
With its headquarters in Middlesex and regional offices in London, Manchester and Coatbridge, Chernikeeff is a network integration business offering complete design, supply, installation, maintenance and consultancy services for data networks.
GK Communications is based in Warrington, with offices in Stokenchurch, London, Swindon and Glasgow. The company provides turnkey solutions to customers` networking business and also has significant experience in voice/data integration.
The Merchants Group, which falls within Dimension Data`s i-Commerce division, operates two of the most technologically advanced communication centres. The centres are located in Milton Keynes (UK) and Cork (Ireland). It services 43 countries in over 25 languages.
Europe
Dimension Data Europe, formerly Comparex Networks which was acquired by the Group earlier this year, is the largest independent Pan-European network integration group on the continent. Its turnover in the 12 months to May 31, 1999, was R2,3-billion.
The Group has an estimated 19% market share in Germany and 35% in the Benelux (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg) region. It is also the largest independent network integrator in France and is represented in the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Italy, Austria, Iberia and Switzerland.
USA
In November 1999, Dimension Data entered the US market through the acquisition of RE/COM, an independent network integration company. With its head office in Moorestown, New Jersey, RE/COM has offices in New York, San Francisco, Boston, Denver, and Raleigh-Durham.
The Group subsequently expanded its operations in the US with the acquisition of Data Comm Systems (DCS), another network integration company.
DCS has been integrated with RE/COM to form a new company, Dimension Data US which will be well placed to capture at least 15% of the networking market in the New England region of the US. This region, which incorporates the states of Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine, Connecticut and upstate New York, is one of the fastest growing in the US.
