Dimension Data, the leading applications network solutions provider, has sponsored a wireless technology solution that will be used in the 2004 Midmar Mile, eliminating the need to lay one mile of cabling.
Dimension Data has implemented a point-to-point wireless solution across the dam, enabling Mr Price, the official time and position keeper of the event, to communicate between the start and finish lines, without having to install expensive infrastructure for this limited duration event.
"If we were to run cables over the length of the dam it would cost in the region of R30 000, excluding the time and labour involved. By implementing a wireless solution, communication can be run via radio frequencies, thus allowing for ease of implementation and eliminating the need for cabling infrastructure," says Greg Stedman, operations manager for network solutions for Dimension Data (KZN).
