Dimension Data has launched a real-time interactive system, helping companies turn on the power of collaboration, productivity and information - vital elements in today`s competitive, global economy.
Demonstrating the versatility of the collaboration system, Dimension Data Executive Chairman Jeremy Ord addressed a packed auditorium at the PictureTel 900 series product launches in Johannesburg and Cape Town, via a video stream.
The PictureTel 900 series is more than a videoconferencing system. It offers videoconferencing and PC capabilities in one, enabling companies to collaborate and thus effectively meet the growing demands of working in today`s knowledge-based, global, customer-centric marketplace.
Ord says Dimension Data already uses videoconferencing for board meetings and collaborative sessions between the group`s global offices in Asia, North America and Australia. "The PictureTel 900 series will further enhance Dimension Data`s communications as the system is able to effectively mix people and content on the same screen," he says.
He adds financial analysts and other executives will appreciate the capabilities of PictureTel`s new technololgy - People+Content.
`People+Content` is used for transmitting and displaying people and content at the highest quality frame rate, or resolutions, as appropriate for each. With People+Content, participants have the option of seeing people on a dedicated people display, and content (documents, presentations, or images) on a separate high-resolution content display.
During the product launch, Dimension Data established a live videoconferencing link to Peter Nutley, senior director at PictureTel in the US, who says the 900 series evolved from a customer driven design process. "The end result is customers have the easy-to-use communication device they requested - enabling them to interact naturally using familiar tools such as whiteboards.
"The combination of Dimension Data`s value-add [a total, customised solution from networking to lighting] and PictureTel`s 900 series features will help you meet your company`s communication requirements," he says.
The potential uses of this collaborative system are numerous, as highlighted by the range of industries attending the launch, including financial services, mining, manufacturing, government departments and academic institutes.
