The Dimension Data Group is now directly represented in Richards Bay, having opened an office in this KwaZulu-Natal port to offer local and wide area networking services to organisations in this burgeoning industrial area.
Situated at the Tuzi Gazi Waterfront Complex, the operation will also function as a satellite centre for the Dimension Data Group`s cluster of remote networking services.
These include the enhanced management, control, error detection and configuration of networks as well as a global support system via the group`s network operating centre (NOC).
The NOC facilitates on-line access to the Dimension Data Global Services Portal and direct support offered by Dimension Data Global Services Operating Centres situated throughout the world.
Jay Reddy, regional director of Dimension Data Enterprise Systems, says the local remote management centre will complement Dimension Data`s KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng facilities. A local call centre is to be established to cater for Richards Bay customers.
"The NOC is designed to remotely manage and monitor all aspects of customer networks, as well as service delivery," he says. "As a result we are able to take over the day-to-day running of the customer`s network, right down to the smallest operational activities."
The NOC will also provide first line technical support for users of Nortel, Cisco, Compaq, IBM and other key product offerings.
"Our service is targeted at Richards Bay companies, or branch offices, that do not have the IT skills in-house needed to fully maintain modern, complex networks, often involving voice and data integration," says Reddy.
"Through Dimension Data, these organisations can take advantage of our world-wide skills resource and, on a time-slice basis, have their networks managed and monitored by our sophisticated remote management centre."
Gavin Labuschagne, sales director, Dimension Data Network Services, says the move to open an operation in Richards Bay was prompted by growing demand for Dimension Data`s suite of services in this area. "Richards Bay is now one of South Africa`s largest ports with growing import and export traffic. The area has experienced burgeoning growth over the past two years.
"The time is right for us to establish a dedicated operation to service this area to which we have been committed for some time," he says.
