Locks, bolts and alarm systems are vital for physical security, but useless if not activated.
"Discipline and process are the keys to good security - whether you are securing your home or IT infrastructure," says Siobhan Hanvey, Comztek`s business development manager for Sygate.
"In the past, while viruses and worms caused harm, they were usually written as pranks by youngsters who caused damage because they could. Today, however, malicious threats are far more sinister."
According to the latest Symantec Threat Report (version 9), 80% of the top 50malware code was written specifically to reveal confidential information.
Leading ICT distributor Comztek has secured exclusive rights to distribute the Sygate Technologies range of behaviour-based security solutions in southern Africa. Sygate Technologies, market leader in endpoint compliance solutions for the large enterprise, was acquired by the Symantec Corporation in October 2005.
"Comztek has expanded its security offering to include the Sygate range because the entire security arena has changed," says Hanvey.
"Today, offenders are no longer infiltrating PCs and networks solely for mischief. They are mounting sophisticated attacks to gain confidential financial or personal information for monetary gain," she says.
Discipline in the IT security arena is therefore key. Businesses must introduce processes to which they adhere strictly. They need to enforce security by guaranteeing that all devices connected to a network - desktops, laptops, servers and mobile devices - are running the appropriate security solutions, are configured correctly and possess up-to-date patches.
"The Sygate range helps businesses enforce business policies and automate security practices to regain control of network security, reduce costs and ensure compliance across the organisation," says Hanvey.
The solutions automate the process of discovering endpoints, determining their compliance with security policies, enforcing network access control, remediating noncompliant systems, and then continuously monitoring for compliance.
Comztek is a clear leader in the networking market and the Sygate endpoint compliance and network access control products are natural additions to any security-aware network.
Comztek will also distribute the compliance ranges of WholeSecurity Inc and BindView Development Corporation, two other companies recently acquired by the Symantec Corporation.
