Disney, SK Telecom team up

SK Telecom is a joint venture with Disney to broadcast two Korean language channels on cable and Internet TV services, reports The Korea Times.

The new company will help Disney establish a firm foothold in Korea, while helping SKT gain access to the US company's content, which it will offer through its mobile devices.

SK Telecom will hold a 51% stake in the venture, which will go into operation in the next couple of months. It also plans to ramp up its video on demand service.

EMC boosts converged network

EMC is planning to offer companies the ability to manage their local area and storage area networks as a single converged network, states ZDNet.

EMC's own offerings will include converged network planning, design and implementation services and tools, while partnerships with Cisco and Brocade will see EMC reselling those companies' switches.

Howard Elias, EMC's president of information infrastructure and cloud services, says: "The advent of converged networks will simplify network challenges and create the centre infrastructure required to realise the full potential of private clouds.”

Samsung drives WiFi cameras

Boingo Wireless has revealed Samsung's latest WiFi-enabled cameras will be pre-loaded with Boingo software, enabling people to connect to more than 125 000 WiFi hotspots worldwide, says News Blaze.

The agreement between Boingo and Samsung addresses burgeoning market demand for Internet-capable consumer devices such as cameras.

Choonghyun Hwang, vice-president of Samsung Electronics, says: "The integration of Boingo's intuitive software with the Samsung cameras enables our users to upload their captured moments via a high-speed connection anywhere in the world, without being tethered to a PC."
