Gary Combrink, MD at Venture, says the company`s first exposure to the product came from Lexmark, itself a long-standing user.
"Notes has enhanced our ability to communicate internally and externally. We have found it to be a useful tool for easily building databases as well as viewing Lexmark`s own," he says. It has given team members access to business critical information from suppliers.
Venture has up to 50 employees working in the Notes environment and there are an additional 110 potential users nationwide.
Steve Dunbar, marketing manager at Lotus SA says that Notes has changed the way the distributor works inhouse. "Team members are now sharing information electronically on supplier profiles, problem logs and product specifications with greater ease.
"The company is also developing a number of other projects in the client service and intranet arena, all driven by the Lotus Domino server - a useful tool for publishing information internally and externally to Venture`s resellers as its user interface requires very little training."
Remote operations are another priority for the distributor. The company is planning to implement Notes on a number of laptops giving its sales team the ability to dial in to check, send and receive mail. "It will be easier for mobile users to work offsite and after hours," quips Combrink.
Richard Fearon, Venture`s director of sales and marketing says that Notes has become an inherent part of his business life. "An automated collection is actioned twice a day from my home, giving me a complete mirror of what is happening across the entire Venture enterprise, 24 hours a day."
Development of a Domino-driven Web site is well underway. The company intends posting documents residing on its server directly to the Internet.
