Divine Divinity is a thinking man`s title and geared for those patient gamers among us.
It is set in your traditional role-playing game setting, i.e. the days when sword and sorcery still meant something. The player can choose to play as a warrior, wizard or survivor, each with his/her own special skills.
The story is typical for the genre. You must save the legendary land of Rivellon from the Lord of Chaos. Sound familiar?
Graphically, the game is not up to the standard of some of today`s titles. However, they are not as bad as what gamers went through in the early days of pixilated images.
The controls are one of the game`s best features. It is simple and intuitive with the player easily getting things done without any problems.
Another advantage of Divine Divinity is its low system requirements. With so many new titles pushing the boundaries of current system resources, it is refreshing to have a title that can play on almost any machine.
Of course, this explains why the game is not graphically as good as it could otherwise have been. The sound is also not too bad and you can definitely enjoy playing with the background music running.
The player can select from over a hundred skills to modify his/her character. This succeeds in making the game world that much more intriguing as you can benefit from interacting with your environment. There are also a large number of different monster types to challenge the character.
The interaction with the environment also hits the mark, with the game allowing your character to pick up and look at almost everything you can see. Divine Divinity also features specialised battle tactics using artificial intelligence, which allows you to ambush, hide and lure your unsuspecting prey into a trap.
If you enjoy the role-playing side of gaming, then Divine Divinity is for you.
