DME selects EMC

The Dubai Mercantile Exchange has announced it is to adopt business solutions from EMC Corporation, reports MySolutionInfo.

This will protect critical for Exchange operations and support the continuous trading of its electronic trading system, DME Direct.

The DME became the first energy futures exchange in the Middle East when it launched on 1 May 2007, and will utilise electronic trading systems that are required to provide high levels of stability.

EMC unveils SaaS strategy

EMC has unveiled its as a service (SaaS) strategy; and the release of MozyEnterprise powered by EMC Fortress for online backup of desktops, laptops and remote Windows servers, reports CNN Money.

EMC also announced several new reseller agreements with business partners, to offer MozyEnterprise online backup services to its customers.

Additionally, EMC is expanding its relationship with Verizon Business to offer this new set of SaaS capabilities.

Friends Provident moves to IPT

Friends Provident is moving all of its UK phone lines to an Internet telephony network by the end of the year to improve customer service and business continuity at its UK call centres and offices, reports ComputerWeekly.

The UK life insurance company finished moving 4 300 telephone lines - about 95% of all lines in its UK business - to an IP platform this month, and will complete migrations in the Isle of Man and at a new call centre opening in Germany by the end of the year.

The move is part of a company-wide strategy called Six-Star that has involved using IT to improve response times.
