With the recent announcement by 3Com that it is transitioning out of the enterprise networking business, DNS, the largest 3Com enterprise integrator in South Africa, is stepping into the gap to offer clients a sustaining support plan ensuring the availability of skills and spares for enterprise products for several years.
The DNS Group is a subsidiary of JSE-listed Dimension Data Holdings. The DNS Networking business unit is well established in the market with many years of computer networking experience.
DNS MD: Networking Gauteng, Andrew Turnbull says many existing 3Com customers are presented with a strategic problem. "Having committed to the 3Com architecture and ethos, these clients must now face the fact that some of the products they have installed have a very limited future," he notes.
"Over time, the available skills level in the country will begin to fall as both integrators and 3Com itself scale down investments in 3Com enterprise skills."
To assist 3Com enterprise clients ensure that their existing products investments continue to deliver value, DNS is offering a two-pronged support plan. "Our approach is not only to ensure the availability of skills and spares for enterprise products for several years, but also to help customers migrate to another network path if necessary - utilising all the substantial resources within the Didata Group," says Turnbull.
Only DNS has the scale and footprint in 3Com enterprise technology to be able to offer clients this service. "By leveraging our substantial country-wide investments in skills and product, DNS can offer clients a very high level of security, even those who may have purchased enterprise equipment from another reseller.
"This service package will include the required consulting to move the client to a new technology platform over time. This approach allows clients to continue to enjoy the use of their existing investments in 3Com today, while investigating and planning the way forward in a pro-active fashion," Turnbull notes.
