Lotus Development and Nokia have announced that the Nokia WAP Server will be integrated into the newly released Domino Everyplace Quick Start, a turn-key WAP solution which links corporate intranets with devices.

"Delivering on plans to support seamless connections between Nokia`s WAP technology and Lotus` Domino product, this marks the first of several joint initiatives between Lotus and Nokia as mobile access takes centre stage in transforming an organisation`s Domino users to the wireless space," comments Lesego Tlhabanelo, marketing communications manager at Lotus Development SA.

"With this combined offering, the extensive number of current Lotus users will benefit from immediate mobile access via WAP to the knowledge and communication space that Lotus Domino offers," he adds.

"We are expecting mobile productivity applications to become available through Lotus` partners around the world who can use Domino Everyplace as a platform."

With the Nokia WAP Server and Domino WAP connector, content from Domino databases is converted into Wireless Mark-up Language (WML) to deliver a personally configured portal accessible by the WAP device.

Domino Everyplace can map Domino intranet applications to the WAP Portal and is based on Domino-supported open standards (including IMAP, SMTP and LDAP).

Key features include:

  • Personally configured WAP Portal;

  • Authentication to a Lotus Domino server;

  • Customised menus for different user groups; and

  • WAP-based Domino e-mail, calendar, to-do lists and corporate directories.
