First National Bank (FNB) today confirmed that the fund has already gathered R1 296 201. Some of the biggest donations currently being made are in the form of eBucks. Many customers and staff have generously donated their eBucks by calling the Call Centre (086 123 3000) or by doing online donations at www.ebucks.com. Over 1 300 eBucks transactions were done on Wednesday 5 January, a record number for one day.
According to Michael Jordaan, CEO of FNB, "A phenomenal amount of eBucks was donated that one day - almost a quarter of a million Rand in eBucks came through. The eBucks option has proved particularly popular with the public. FNB customers ear eBucks for doing their usual banking transactions, so these are `luxury funds`, not monthly disposable income. People are probably making larger donations with their eBucks than if they gave from their Rand accounts."
"We have been astonished, and proud, of the number of customers who have so generously donated their eBucks. The highest eBucks donation to date has been from a single customer who today donated eB160 000 (R16 000)," said Lezanne Human, CEO of eBucks.com. "We urge all customers who have not yet spent their eBucks to take this opportunity to make a valuable difference towards helping the victims of this terrible disaster."
Jordaan continues: "The substantial amount of money already collected globally is true testimony that this tragic disaster transcends all barriers of race, religion or creed. People from all walks of life across the world have joined hands to make a real difference and to bring hope to the millions of affected people."
