Dozer `ASYSTed`

ASYST International SA has implemented Access Accounts at Dozer Parts in a fast, trouble-free implementation that has greatly contributed to increased business efficiency at this dynamic South African company.

Established in 1982, Dozer Parts (Pty) Ltd is a forward-thinking company that specialises in the supply of used parts, used components and rebuilt componentry/service exchange for Caterpillar earthmoving equipment, as well as used Plant items. Supplying product to most of the large mining houses, government departments, construction companies, plant hire companies and many other earthmoving related concerns, Dozer is an international concern selling both in Southern Africa and abroad.

Dozer has distinguished itself from its competitors by combining a vibrant sales team and skilled labour to provide rapid service to its clients.

Utilising IT has long been a part of Dozer`s strategy and it previously ran a strong legacy system to aid in system automation. However, the old system became very expensive to update and maintain, especially since the documentation was inadequate and the original staff that had developed the systems were no longer available. The systems were also not Web or e-commerce enabled and had become so inflexible that it was difficult to incorporate the new and increased capabilities that were required by Dozer.

"Dozer needed to be able to incorporate the key components for our business, specifically our management strategy and an improved quality control system, in addition to being able to provide improved and fast response times to plant users," said Andrew Preston, Director at Dozer.

Following an extensive six-month evaluation of several product offerings by an independent consultant, Dozer decided to implement Access Accounts Dimensions through ASYST International SA.

According to Andrew Preston, Access Accounts, a UK-based accounting system was chosen primarily because it is e-commerce enabled, inexpensive, quick to implement and can easily integrate with third-party applications. In addition, ASYST International`s Development team could easily create and integrate site-specific applications like the Workshop and Stripper modules, essential to the efficient automation of Dozer`s business processes.

According to Paul Marketos, MD of ASYST International, integration was the key to the implementation. "Dozer needs to be able to react very quickly to client requests. There is no time, nor should there ever be a need, to re-key data. Access Accounts offers a cost-effective solution for seamless integration, and one that does not require technical user intervention.

"The implementation went very smoothly, it took only two months from start to finish and came in on budget," continued Preston. "We are already experiencing increased efficiencies across our total operation, even though it only went live in April. Access Accounts provides excellent search facilities, and utilising Crystal Reports we can find and analyse our data immediately. We are more than satisfied with these new systems, which have not only catered for all our current needs but also established a sound platform for our future requirements. We look forward to long and profitable association with ASYST International SA," concluded Preston.
