Mobile game, Draw Something, has become the fastest-growing original game of all time by passing the 50 million downloads mark.
The game is described as a mobile version of Pictionary, or a “social drawing” game, in which players draw and guess words to earn points. The game is available in both paid and free versions for iOS and Android.
The game was developed by OMGPOP, which was acquired by social gaming giant Zynga for an estimated $180 million in March.
OMGPOP CEO Dan Porter said in a statement at the time: “After long discussions with the Zynga team, we came to understand that Zynga's interest was in giving us an amazing platform, in terms of resources and talent, to continue to build different, out-of-the-box social games like Draw Something.”
"We believe it's not only the fastest-growing original mobile game of all time - 50 days to hit 50 million downloads - but one of the fastest growing Web sensations that we've seen," says Zynga.
During its first two weeks of availability, it amassed 10 million downloads. The game also currently holds the number one spot on the download charts on iTunes, even beating out Angry Birds Space.
Zynga reportedly declined to reveal current daily and monthly active users for the game. The company's latest earnings report showed that overall Zynga had over 15 million daily active users by the end of 2011; this number is expected to have been significantly improved through the acquisition of OMGPOP and Draw Something specifically.
