Draytek offers new fibre routers

Johannesburg, 01 Oct 2009

Network Platforms has unveiled four new Draytek fibre routers: a basic fibre to home solution; a fibre to home with IP services; a fibre to home wireless router; and fibre to home wireless router with IP services.

These routers offer homes and small businesses the ability to receive fibre directly into their home or business, which can subsequently allow the realisation of multimedia services and high bandwidth applications.

According to MD Bradley Love: “The market trends are moving towards fibre and it's only a matter of time before the standard connectivity will be fibre to businesses and households. The standards in Europe are fibre and VDSL. There's still a long road ahead, but Draytek needs to stay a head of the competition to retain its SME market share.”

All four fibre routers offer a single or dual fibre connection, 4 port Ethernet connections, object based firewall to prevent external attacks, two USB 2.0 ports, and various VPN facilities. All units also support the 3.5GUSB modem as a backup broadband connection, should the fibre line be dropped.

One can also connect a hard disk or USB memory stick to the unit to provide file sharing, thus allowing file uploading and downloading either from the local network or the outside Internet. Users connecting from the Internet will need to provide a username and password to gain access to private files and a public area can be used for allowing anyone access. Access control for writing and reading files can be set on individual directories or files on both the private and public areas.

The router offers a business-class firewall that can effectively prevent surfing to restricted sites. The built in DrayTek Content Security System can manage peer-to-peer connections and other protocols.

The DrayTek Vigor2110F is the basic fibre to home solution, offering all the above facilities.

The DrayTek Vigor2110FV also offers VOIP facilities for low cost calls.

The DrayTek Vigor2110Fn includes the 802.11n wireless standard, allowing wireless connections.

The DrayTek Vigor2110FVn offers both VOIP and 802.11n wireless facilities.
