DST gears up for INSITE 2004

Twelve countries will take part in the International Science, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (INSITE), to be staged at Gallagher Estate, Midrand, from 1 to 3 November.

"Supported and funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the exhibition will see a number of organisations display their current and future innovation, science and technology solutions," says Jo Melville, MD of event organiser, Exhibitions for Africa.

"INSITE is being staged as an integral part of SA`s 10 years of democracy celebrations.

"Among other things, the exhibition aims to create an international marketplace for innovation, science and technology (IST), focus on IST solutions for the developing world and provide opportunities within the industry.

"Foreign countries that have signed to participate in the exhibition are Botswana, Finland, China, France, Germany, Iran, Japan, Netherlands, UK, US and Lesotho," says Melville.

"On the South African stand, a number of DST-related organisations will include the Council for Geoscience, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, the Design Institute of SA, the DST ICT Unit, the Research Council and the National Research Foundation.

"The exhibition will offer a multi-dimensional series of seminars and workshops. This includes the DST presenting on classical development aid in science and technology, ICT technology road mapping, and the open source revolution to promote the use of the by all South Africans," says Melville.

"To see the displays, models and presentations of all these projects, as well as those of 13 other countries, visitors can register for free entrance to the show at www.insitex.co.za."
