DST International (DSTi) has joined the South African Technology Vanguard (SAVANT), a government-sponsored campaign to grow the ICT and electronics (ICTE) industries to create employment, wealth, empowerment, exports, investment and small business development.
SAVANT pulls together a coalition of industry leaders supported by the Department of Trade and Industry and the ICT Development Council, and is the country`s first marketing and branding campaign for the country`s hi-tech sectors.
"It is important for us as an international vendor to join the South African initiative to promote the local technology sector," says Adele Fogwill, AWD sales executive at DSTi, "and participate in the development of SA as a whole."
The multi-level project is an ongoing initiative, beginning with the establishment of an effective Web presence, to be complemented by extensive promotion material, advertisements and projects locally and abroad.
Trade and industry minister Alec Erwin, speaking at the launch of the initiative, said the ICT Development Council sought to position SA as a leader in the ICTE sector, while developing best-of-breed skills and leading-edge innovation locally. "SAVANT`s primary goals are to create export opportunities and promote foreign and local investment," he said.
DSTi is SA`s leading provider of software solutions to the financial services sector, with a special focus on systems for asset managers; and a leading provider of workflow and business process management software to a variety of market sectors.
The SAVANT initiative has identified six areas in which SA has a distinct competitive advantage: IT training and certification, call centres, wireless development, pilot labs, niche software development, and infrastructure development.
Savant has the backing of the International Marketing Council of South Africa, Proudly South African, the Information Industry SA, and the SA Electro Technical Export Council.
