As TV watching moves beyond the living room, Samsung and DStv are looking to offer consumers a more mobile experience, says Samsung's Craige Fleischer.

Samsung SA has partnered with DStv to offer consumers Galaxy tablet and Drifta Mobile decoder bundles.

The deal is intended to cater to consumers who want to enjoy broadcast TV across multiple platforms, says Samsung. According to Craige Fleischer, director of mobile communications at Samsung SA, the agreement is an opportunity for Samsung to grow partnerships with service providers and to offer solutions to meet changing consumer needs. "Watching television has evolved beyond the living room," he says.

"With the popularity of tablets continuously increasing, and as the demand for communication mobility grows, this partnership will further enhance our unique multimedia offering, allowing consumers to watch their favourite shows or support their sport teams, wherever they are."

The Drifta for Android offering allows consumers to access DStv Mobile channels using select Samsung Galaxy Tab and Note devices, and uses Digital Video Broadcast Handheld (DVB-H) technology to improve digital sound and picture quality.

For Mark Rayner, CEO of DStv Mobile, the limited-edition offering looks to bring mobile television to more South Africans by creating additional opportunities to view content, and allowing them to watch television regardless of location.

The bundles are available through network operators and leading retailers and will include a three-month DStv Mobile subscription at no additional cost.
