When the Smart 2020 Study by the Climate Group revealed that the ICT industry was set to overtake the aviation industry as one of the key contributors to global CO2 emissions, it caught the attention of executives at DiGi, reports The Star.
As a result, DiGi unveiled its Deep Green programme in August 2008, with the aim of reducing the company's carbon footprint by 50% by early 2012.While the Deep Green programme is mainly focused on internal operations such as the “greening” and modernisation of DiGi's network, all the different stakeholders have been addressed.
Customers who choose e-billing over paper bills, for example, enjoy a discount. According to DiGi Telecommunications head of corporate responsibility, Vimal Kumar, 20% of its post-paid customers have already chosen this option.
