Dubai Ports Authority selects MAXIMO

Johannesburg, 07 May 2002

MST, the leading Pretoria-based provider of solutions for powering industrial collaboration, today announced that MAXIMO has been successfully commissioned at The Dubai Ports Authority`s (DPA) twin terminals of Jebel Ali and Port Rashid.

With MAXIMO, DPA can efficiently streamline its complex container handling equipment environment, automating and tracking preventive maintenance routines, work order schedules and maintenance resources.

The DPA was formed in May 1991 and set up in Jebel Ali. It manages the twin terminals of Port Rashid, Dubai, and Jebel Ali Port. Port Rashid has been receiving ships from as long ago as 1974, while the Jebel Ali Port became operational in 1979. No other port in the region handles more cargo ships or such a great variety of freight.

The Jebel Ali Port terminal offers 67 berths occupying 15km of quay, while Port Rashid has 35 berths. The DPA can also offer large storage areas, cool and cold stores and timberland. Jebel Ali Port is the largest man-made port in the world with a depth of 15m. Like the Great Wall of China it is visible to the naked eye from outer space. Over 100 international shipping lines service the twin terminals of Jebel Ali and Port Rashid.

MAXIMO was selected after a thorough review of several enterprise asset maintenance vendors. Only MAXIMO proved capable of efficiently integrating with DPA`s existing systems and business practices. The interoperability of MAXIMO will provide DPA more efficient use of its existing ERP systems, to provide back-end system integration and improved "user friendliness" for all CMMS users leading to increased efficiency and productivity.

A joint project team of DPA and MDS, complemented by MST resources, managed the implementation of MAXIMO. MST has been a MRO software VAR (value-added reseller) since 1994 and has implemented MAXIMO across all industry verticals since that time.

"We strive for continuous improvement in our maintenance processes, and MAXIMO will be a key enabler for improving fully integrated purchasing, material control, and maintenance management with Internet capability," said Alan Locker, DPA MAXIMO project manager. "In addition, having a common system will allow us to deploy best practices throughout the entire DPA ports operation. With an impressive track record in capital-intensive industries, we feel that the MST-MDS team understood our needs and issues."

"Scalability was a key factor in DPA`s decision, and MAXIMO works in any size operation," commented Danie van Vuuren, MST`s Director of Sales and Marketing. "We look forward to continued and positive feedback from DPA as they join over 9 500 global companies that use MAXIMO."
